FlightCheck \u2014 Will It Fly?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

My Samsung S25 is looking less like an S25 every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve twisted the settings around to automate a few tasks, installed a couple of things from F-Droid, and loaded it up with some of my own experimental apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point, I don’t expect anybody else’s phone to look or behave anything like mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when I build a new app and it runs perfectly on my phone, I have to ask myself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it flies on mine, will it fly anywhere else?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s why I’m building FlightCheck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FlightCheck lets other people test my apps on their own devices, with their own settings, and their own ideas about how things should work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not asking anybody to write a technical report. Just try a few things and tell me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Does it work?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Does it do what it’s supposed to?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Does it look right?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Is it easy to use?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    If something breaks, tell me what happened. Maybe throw in a screenshot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Offline Test Form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    I also wanted a way for people to test an app without having to stay connected to FlightCheck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The idea is simple. Download a test form, take it along, and work through the app whenever you have time. You can test on the couch, at lunch, or somewhere without an internet connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Record what works, what doesn’t, and anything that seems odd. When you’re back online, submit your results to FlightCheck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You don’t have to test everything in one sitting, either. A few features today and a few more tomorrow are perfectly fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The whole point is to make testing easy enough that people will actually do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Still in the Hangar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Right now, FlightCheck is running on my internal network, behind a firewall, on my test server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It’s not publicly accessible yet, and that’s intentional. I’m still testing the testing software. There’s a little irony in that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once I’ve worked through the remaining issues, FlightCheck will move to a public server so volunteers can start putting my apps through their paces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I expect FlightCheck to go live soon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A pre-flight safety check catches small mechanical or operational problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I’d rather find those problems on the ground than discover them after takeoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
